Mike Meeker

I was born and raised in Otsego County and graduated from Unatego Central School. Just like many others who grew up in this area, I moved away in search of better career opportunities that I felt weren’t provided in this area. I found myself working in the building industry. First in Schenectady County then Saratoga County. I worked my way into Contractor Sale at a much younger age than my colleagues.

While doing this there were two things I learned; how important building relationships was and providing excellent customer service without being asked. I ultimately realized that doing the right thing in today's workplace is now more important than ever. I soon found myself outgrowing the building industry and really striving for more. Around that same time, I was introduced to the State Farm Agency Opportunity. I believed that being a State Farm Agent meant; an employee of an “insurance giant”, but just like you I misunderstood State Farm in general. The reality is I would be a Small Business Owner that would determine my own success with the help of State Farm behind me. This task was not small, since you cannot buy your way into Agency you have to earn it. In 2015 State Farm agreed to partner with me. I, then opened my Agency doors on September 1, 2016, back in my home county where I grew up. From that day on I have worked to build a successful agency priding ourselves on forming relationships with our customers and give the most excellent customer service to each person that walks through our doors. I am proud to provide Oneonta Insurance as well as the surrounding areas we service.

On a personal note: I am a husband & proud father of four children. I enjoy teaching my children what is not taught at school like; how to ride a bicycle or dirt bike and using their hands to fix/build or plant. Over the years I have found a real conviction to help in a small community. With that being said you may find me in my neighborhood working with a neighbor in need, or just chatting about life. If not, you may also see me working with the Milford Village & School boards to ensure that our community lives up to is expectations of being a great place to live. In my spare time my family and I enjoy being outdoors. When the weather is nice you will see us on our boat in Goodyear Lake. When the snow on the ground we’ll be bundled up on the trails snowmobiling. We do anything to soak up the great outdoors that us Upstate New Yorkers are so blessed to have at our fingertips.

As you can see above, I am not your typical "Insurance Agent". I work hard in many aspects of life, while also enjoying a moment to step back and looking at what hard work yields. With all my experiences through life and past occupations, I know what a home is truly is worth, not just what a computer program tells to me. My ability to properly insure your home is more valuable than any other insurance agent can provide. My knowledge doesn’t just stop at homes it continues with cars. Being a proclaimed car guy, I will share the same passion about your daily drivers, classic antiques and your dream cars as well. In the end this is full circle for me. I left the county for better career opportunities, but the opportunity of a lifetime brought me back home.
